TIPS FOR FLYING COMFORTABLY ON AIRPLANE (ECONOMY CLASS)

). Don’t think about it.
). Pick newer planes if you have a choice on the route (A350s are pressurized closer to what our bodies are used to on the ground, A380s are really quiet especially on the upper deck).
). Choose an aisle seat so that you don’t have to think about how much climbing over your neighbors is appropriate.
). Choose a seat at least 5 rows away from the bassinets (crying babies) and lavatories (high foot traffic).
). Shower and get a fresh change of clothes before the flight. Status-based lounge access helps a lot in this regard.
). Avoid tight clothing that is bad for circulation, as well as overly thin or thick clothing which may leave you too cold or hot.
). Do not look at the flight time remaining on the airshow. It gets slower if you count down minute by minute.
). Exercise. Do leg raises and take walks in the aisles and galley spaces to prevent cramps and deep vein thrombosis. Don’t do yoga in the galley though– the crew hates it.
). Keep hydrated. Avoid excessive soft drinks and alcohol intake. Water is the best, juices slightly worse as they might be very sugary and diminish your chances of sleeping.
). Avoid food that might make your stomach uncomfortable (e.g. excessively spicy or raw).
). Some people like neck pillows, eyeshades, and earplugsā€¦pack whatever helps you to sleep.
). Work therapy helps for me but may not for all. Not only does it make time fly by, but it also gives me the comfort that I’m earning more sleep once I reach my destination.
). Minimize things you have to worry about at your destination. Have crisp major currency notes for visa on arrival (if applicable), work out the airport transportation in your head, and don’t check luggage if at all possible.

I’d still say above all, go back to the cardinal principle #1. Don’t think about it, it’ll be over before you know.
